Actually, though, I despise writing the outline; if I had my way, I'd get somebody else to do it! Alas, it doesn't work that way. But when it's all said and done, I'm always glad I have that outline to work from. That's not to say the work isn't going to take off on its own -- it can, and it will; the outline is the map, not the road itself. Sometimes the map doesn't show everything you'll encounter on the journey. But it's a helluva safeguard, as you say.... It's very cliche and won't be very good, but i don't mind because i am writing this one for myself. If i ever wanted to seriously look at writing, not having an outline seems a bit crazy!
