The Storms Gather Around Our Hero…Nanowrimo Looms

I knew it would happen. It happens every year. In fact, I blogged about it the other day. Things I tried very hard to exclude from November are intruding. New things that I didn’t even plan against are also popping up out of the soil to glance around. They are all hungry, and what they eat is time. It begins to look as if it will be sheer concentration and will-power I’ll have to depend on to get through Nanowrimo this year.

Through no fault of my own, pending projects are stretching out. At least one of those is sort on a deadline of its own, hoping to be in the bag in time for some further things to happen before Christmas. I take my responsibilities seriously, and so that will get done. I have probably got the MGM edits (whatever they might be) to do for the Stargate Atlantis novel due in February. The OTHER project isn’t done yet, though it looked for a while like it might be. I will have to charge this way and that, pound out words at the speed of a crazed squirrel on caffeine caught in bright headlights – but less confused.

I may just be stressing, but it seems as if every year I participate in Nanowrimo it gets harder. Every year the universe blithely ignores my warning to stay clear for thirty days. Instead, new projects at work crop up that are extreme priority. Editors come out of the woodwork to ask about things they haven’t cared about in years. I even have company coming. I never get company…but they’re coming.

I will hunker down now, be happy that I completed my outline way ahead of time, and continue to toss buckets of water over the side as the ship goes down (lol). This year Nanowrimo may actually be HARD. Go figure.
