The Anatomy and Creation of a Story Pt. 4

the_natural_history_of_unicornsIt’s funny that something like unicorns, which I wouldn’t normally have too deep an interest in, have hijacked my thoughts a lot lately. I’ve been in a situation where it was a good idea to let my mind wander far away from what’s going on here in the “real” world, and that might be part of it.

I’ve come up with about a dozen viable unicorn plots for stories. I already knew / know which one I planned to write, but if I needed to I could write a dozen, and the well wouldn’t really be dry. For one thing, there are a lot of different legends from different cultures. For another, there are a lot of ways to approach a “themed” story – I’ve touched on this before. I like to write things from the periphery when doing themes. I like to be the story that didn’t just “follow the road.”

I’ve even come up with a Da Vinci style thriller involving a unicorn’s horn and a grand conspiracy…what have I done?

Anyway…I am letting all of this simmer while I try to finish up “Heart of a Dragon,” but I’m getting the urge to write something deeper and I’m afraid, this time, the story will have a point. On the tip of a unicorn’s horn..

Maybe I’ll find a publisher to let me edit a unicorn anthology…
