The Folks & The Folks 2

Ray Garton has been penning creepy tales for our enjoyment for decades. These two short novels, both published in signed limited edition hardcover by Cemetery Dance Publications, are a glimpse into one young man’s particular hell.folks.jpg

On the surface, these are grisly stories of death, carnage, physical handicaps, and all of that with that tinge of dark eroticism that marks so much of Garton’s fiction. If you dig a bit deeper, though, you’ll find more.

Andy Sayers lives in Pinecrest, a place they just call the village, situated part way up Mt. Crag. Andy’s face has been horribly disfigured, the result of a fire caused by a neglectful mother. He lives with his grandmother, who is a very religious woman -taking into account that her religion borders on fanaticism.

Through unknown benefactors, Andy was sent to HAND OF GOD – a private college up on the mountain, where they were to teach him to be a God-fearing young man. It didn’t work out.

Then, on Halloween, Andy meets Amanda Bollinger, and things slide straight down a quick, slippery slope to hell. There is sex. There are horrors in Amanda’s life and family Andy could never have dreamed of. I won’t go there and spoil it for you…but I will say that when you dig beneath the surface, you find something remarkable in these books.folks2.jpg

Conscience. You find insights into what it is like to be different. You find characters who react to that situation very differently. You find several takes on religion, along with a depth of thought that sticks with you, even after you wipe away the blood.

In The Folks 2 – Andy has a new set of adventures, stemming from the ending of the first book, and leaving things wide open for further tales of his life. These are short books, and a lot happens very quickly, but each and every thing that happens has it’s price, it’s lesson to teach, and at least one image you won’t be able to shake out of your head.

This is a great set of books, and the two combined would make a good novel. Highly recommended! You can buy THE FOLKS 2 at the HORROR MALL – and you can put your name on a waiting list there in case THE FOLKS comes available again, as it is long sold out.  Just click the cover images above!
