We’re watching the first episode of “Destination Truth” – where a guy who is in some way in cahoots with the Ghost Hunters crew travels around the world to investigate strange things. First they went to Masada – a place I’ve been myself. I will tell you – these guys and their talking to shadows and measuring electric currents strike me as the sort of hooey that removes people’s ability to believe in the supernatural. The show is interesting, but silly as hell.
When I visited Masada, we heard the speech that was recorded by the one historian who survived that mass suicide – the speech that drove them all to take their own lives rather than submit to becoming Roman slaves. It was read by a Chaplain who was a Rabbi…and it was a powerful moment. In fact, there were a lot of places in and around Jerusalem that hit me in a very real, very powerful way…but I saw no ghosts.
Now they are hunting leprechauns in deepest Ireland. Again, there’s a lot to be learned about folklore, and the settings are wonderful. The crew is fairly entertaining – but they are there to entertain people, not to find anything serious, and they are always going to see “something” – even when it’s nothing. We’ll probably continue to watch … I love shows like this… Now, I must watch to see if they find a wee fellow in green…

Love this show. Definitely the best, most entertaining of the whole hunter/quest-type shows out there. They do a good job of not taking things too seriously and making things funny, especially when they're on assignments that are clearly ridiculous, such as the leprechaun segment.
There's been quite a few compelling episodes, though. Far more compelling than even the best of Ghost Hunters and Monster Quest, etc.
